William Minor Lile Professorship in Law

The William Minor Lile Professorship in Law was funded by an anonymous donor in honor of the Law School's first dean. Mr. Lile (Law 1882) joined the faculty in 1893. Appointed dean in 1904, he helped strengthen the school's curriculum and was instrumental in organizing the University of Virginia Law School Association. Mr. Lile was president of the Virginia Bar Association and published Notes on Equity Procedure and Lile's Edition of Bigelow's Bill Notes and Checks. He helped found the Virginia Law Register and served as its sole editor for many years. Mr. Lile died in 1935.
