Matheson /Morganthau Professorship
The William L. Matheson and Robert M. Morgenthau Distinguished Professorship in Law was funded by Mr. Matheson in honor of Mr. Morgenthau, a lifelong friend. William Matheson (Law '50) practiced with Patterson, Belknap & Webb and other New York firms before opening his own firm. He was chairman of Michigan Energy Resources Company and its predecessors from 1959 until 1989. Mr. Matheson retired from law practice in 1993 and died in 2002. Robert Morgenthau, the New York district attorney and former U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, received the 1991 Thomas Jefferson Foundation Award in Law.
