Cary D. Langhorne Professorship in Architecture
The Cary D. Langhorne Professorship in Architecture was created by the Cary D. Langhorne Trust, Inc. Dr. Langhorne (Medicine 1897) was committed to perpetuating "the architectural beauty and design of the buildings, grounds, and serpentine walls ' in accordance with the plans of Thomas Jefferson." The trust established by Dr. Langhorne underwrote much of the 1970s Rotunda restoration. A Virginia Military Institute alumnus, Dr. Langhorne joined the U.S. Navy at the outbreak of the Spanish-American War in 1898, served in World War I as a commander, and received the Medal of Honor. He died in 1948.
