Fund for Academic Excellence in the Shannon Center for Advanced Studies

Edgar F. Shannon Jr., U.Va.'s fourth president from 1954 to 1974, established the Shannon Center for Advanced Studies. Through the creation of this center, Mr. Shannon was able to attract well-known and respected faculty to the University. In 1998, John H. Bryan of Lake Bluff, Ill., created the Fund for Academic Excellence in the Shannon Center for Advanced Studies. The fund supplements the salaries of faculty who are members of the Shannon Center for Advanced Studies and supports academic excellence.
